Helpful Tips for Starting a Garden Of Your Own

Have you always wanted to grow your very own garden but weren’t sure how to make it happen? How many times have you brought home flowers from a florist or store and thought “I wish I could grow my own flowers”? Have you ever purchased fruit or vegetables and thought “I should grow my own; it would be so much cheaper and probably taste better”? Have you ever thought about starting an herb garden to save money? How often do you look at your current living space and wonder where your garden should go? The good news is that you can start a garden pretty much anywhere-even indoors! Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Don’t ever let your seedlings dry out completely. It is true that there are a lot of different types of plants that thrive in dry soil conditions but that doesn’t mean that you can let them dry out completely. All seedlings will need at least a little bit of water. You don’t have to let your seedlings sit in mud, obviously, but you need to give them at least a little bit of moisture if you want to keep them alive. How much water you will need to feed to your plants will depend on what type of plants you are trying to grow. Before you put your seedlings in the garden learn how much and how often they need to be watered. You don’t want your plants to drown or dry out!

Loosen up your soil by digging into the ground. If you start digging before the conditions are right you could mess up your garden.

A packet of seeds and some dirt will not be enough if you have never in your life started a garden. If you purchase plants which have already begun sprouting, your may have better luck. This way your job is almost entirely maintenance based as you get your garden thriving. Your worries about whether the plants will grow will decrease. Your only worry is keeping the plants alive. Next year, after you have gained some experience you may want to try your luck with seedlings. Another reason for beginning with sprouted plants is some plants grow every year regardless of you having planted new seeds – the bulbs simply remain dormant until the next blooming season.
